The Cresson

Granbury volleyball brought a second straight sweep home from Arlington on Tuesday, October 20, defeating Lamar 25–13, 25–11, 25–12. The Lady Pirates are 8–5 in District 3–6A and 18–24 overall in the current MaxPreps record.

Kailynne Sermarini led the attack with 13 kills, while Kyleigh Huggins supplied 13 assists and 10 service aces, according to the match statistics entered through iStatVball 3 on MaxPreps. The team totals list 40 kills, 15 aces and 52 digs. These are recorded match statistics, rather than an eyewitness account of the action.

The win followed Granbury’s October 16 sweep at Arlington Sam Houston, 25–6, 25–2, 25–15. Granbury has now won four of its last five district matches; the loss in that stretch was at Weatherford on October 13. The school’s schedule also records October wins over Bowie and Arlington.

Martin visits for the district finale

Arlington Martin comes to the James Wann Center on Friday, October 23, for the last match on Granbury’s published varsity regular-season schedule. The school’s athletics site and high school calendar list varsity first serve at 6:30 p.m. Martin won the teams’ September 29 meeting in Arlington, three sets to one.

Martin and Weatherford each stand 10–3 in our district results compilation, behind Aledo at 13–0. Granbury follows at 8–5, with Arlington at 6–7. Each of the eight teams has completed 13 district matches; tied records are not an official tiebreaker order.

Friday is also Granbury’s football Homecoming night, with Arlington Sam Houston scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Pirate Stadium. Families planning both events should allow for the volleyball match to continue beyond kickoff. Check the school’s current schedule before leaving: some secondary listings show a different volleyball start time.
